What superlatives can this lover of A. animated shorts and B. ‘everyman classics’ toss at the potential buyer of Deutsche Grammophon’s MAD ABOUT CARTOONS that hasn’t been used a kazillion times before about any number of other CDs? Frankly: THERE’S NONE.
But I have to tell yah– this album is pure joy!
(as Yosemite Sam:) Whhhhhyyy… I dast anyone (oh, sorry) to listen here to ‘Figaro’ from THE BARBER OF SEVILLE without going absolutely NUTS! It’s guaranteed to make you bounce off the walls– just like early-1940s Daffy Duck used to do!
Buy this one. Your only regret will be that you never found it sooner.
RANDOM TRACK NOTES:
WILLIAM TELL begins at the so-called ‘Lone Ranger’ theme. Parts of this classic von Karajan version were used by Stanley Kubrick in A CLOCKWORK ORANGE (1971).
RIDE OF THE VALKYRIES includes both go-rounds (rare for an ‘excerpts’ collection!). TIME: 4:57
HUNGARIAN RHAPSODY #5 is a bit faster than I prefer.
Interesting orchestration on HUNGARIAN RHAPSODY #2. It starts with a lower register trumpet solo. The clarinetist makes us wait for his solo. Neat! Love that closely-miked bass viol. Runs almost 11 minutes!
Oh my gosh… the LAMMERMOOR sextet is AWESOME! I can see the ‘Back Alley Oproar’ cats serenading under a full moon.
BLUE DANUBE is the full work. A nifty version, too (trying not to hyperbolize…).
The next time someone smirks that classical music puts them to sleep, crank up the ANVIL CHORUS for them…
As an E. Power Biggs lover, I can’t admit to preferring Ton Koopman’s extra TOCCATA & FUGUE intro notes or the general choppiness.
SUGAR PLUM FAIRIES is one of the finest versions you’ll ever hear. Ditto the DANCE OF FLUTES.
DANCE OF THE HOURS starts right at that famous melody.
(as Bugs:) It ain’t Leopold (Leopold! Leopold!), Doc.. but SORCERER’S APPRENTICE closes out a phenomenal set quite nicely.
(as Daffy:) Heeeeyyy.. whattaya you still doin’ readin’ this? Go on, buy the CD!!! Don’t be despicable…..

Decorating Ideas For Kids Bedrooms
When your children start to get older they express a desire to have a more customized room. On top of overall room decor there are plenty of kids bedroom sets for you to choose from that will make you...

group halloween party Tip
Opens with the Lone Ranger music, followed by Hunt for the Wabbit. Kiddo has never seen either, but he knows the music means run about the house and twirl with glee.
The music is unusually rich and full, it will fill the room. My only complaint is the pieces are clipped. You only get William Tell from the “Lone Ranger” segment when the entire work has been used in cartoons. Other clips suffer the same way.

At first glance I felt that this book was a real waste of my money. I am trying to improve my caricaturing skills and this book was more about cartooning than caricaturing. It was instructional when it came to exageration of details and a few other neccessary pointers, but did it teach me how to caricature anyone? Not anyone I know! It’s good reading if you want to know about the author and general information about the history of caricaturing, and so forth. If you want to learn how to draw caricatures, as I do, then I don’t think this book will help you very much.
Turns out this is a small (paperback novel size) book from a British “artist”. Over 200 pages of his dull British quips, and primitive drawings of people who I guess are famous in England but I didnt recognize most of them so how could I know if they were good caricatures or not? Im guessing not. He thinks he’s hillarious in his writing and cartoons.. My copy was old and dingy and pencil lines throughout..hopefully it helped someone in the past.. I would say I found two pages to be informative regarding getting published..but thats it.
